MetaTrader 5 in Blindspot: what works and what doesn't
Blindspot is a futures journal. It can still import your closed MT5 positions from an HTML or Excel report and journal them, with forex, CFD, metal, index and crypto symbols. It takes your profit from the report, so the money matches MT5. Some features need market data that Blindspot only has for futures, and those won't work for you. Here is the plain list, so you can decide.
- Closed positions from an MT5 report (HTML, .xlsx or .xls)
- Any symbol MT5 writes, including broker suffixes
- Your broker's profit figure, after commission, swap and taxes
- Win rate, expectancy, profit factor, calendar, notes and tags
This is an independent guide written by Blindspot, not a MetaQuotes page. Blindspot is not affiliated with MetaQuotes.
How to import your MT5 trades into Blindspot
1 Open the report menu
In the MetaTrader 5 terminal, open the History tab, set the period you want, right-click in the list and choose Report. The exact items under Report depend on your MT5 build.
2 Save a report that lists your trades
Blindspot needs a table of your closed trades. It accepts a report with a Positions table (columns Time, Position, Symbol and so on), or a Detailed Statement with Ticket and Open Time columns, saved as HTML or, if your terminal offers it, Excel.
Newer MT5 builds also have a report overview with tabs for Summary, Profit/Loss, Long/Short, Symbols and Risks, which saves as HTML or PDF. Blindspot can't read PDF at all, and an HTML file with no trade table is refused with "No closed trades found". Nothing is half-imported.
3 Upload it to Blindspot
In Blindspot go to Import and choose MetaTrader 5 (Detailed Statement HTML) or MetaTrader 5 (Trade History Excel) to match your file. Unless you choose an existing account, the trades go into one named after the MT5 account number in the report.
4 Choose your broker's server time
The times in an MT5 report have no offset. Blindspot treats them as your broker's server time, and it needs you to say which zone that is, because it has no market prices to work it out from for these symbols. If you pick wrong, trades can land on the wrong day. You can correct the import later from Import history.
What works
- Your money figures. Each trade's gross P&L is MT5's Profit column. Net P&L adds commission and swap, and taxes where the report has them, with the signs MT5 gives them: a swap charge lowers it and a swap credit raises it.
- The journal. Win rate, expectancy, profit factor, drawdown, the calendar and breakdowns by symbol, hour and weekday, with notes, tags and screenshots on each trade.
- Re-uploads. A trade that matches one from an earlier import on symbol, direction and open time (and size, in HTML) is updated rather than duplicated.
What doesn't work
- No MAE/MFE or price charts for these symbols. They need 1-minute prices, and Blindspot only fetches those for futures contracts. EURUSD or XAUUSD has none.
- No currency conversion. Amounts stay as the report gives them, and Blindspot shows money with a dollar sign. A GBP account's £100 appears as $100, and All Accounts adds it to your USD accounts as if it were dollars. Keep such an account selected on its own.
- No automatic time zone. Matching trades against market prices only works for contracts Blindspot has prices for.
- Points aren't reliable. Your dollar results come from the report, but Blindspot doesn't know your broker's contract size for each symbol. Don't rely on the calendar's points view or other per-point numbers for MT5 trades.
- No open positions, pending orders or balance operations. Only closed buy and sell positions are imported.
- No live connection. There is no MT5 sync or add-on. You upload a new report when you want to update.
Frequently asked questions
Can I journal forex trades in Blindspot?
Yes, as closed positions from an MT5 report, with your broker's profit figures. Blindspot is built for futures, so forex trades get no MAE/MFE or price charts, and amounts in another currency are not converted.
Why does it say No closed trades found?
The file has no table of closed trades that Blindspot recognises, or every position in it is still open. Save a report with a Positions table, or a Detailed Statement with Ticket and Open Time columns.
Does Blindspot accept PDF or CSV from MT5?
No. The MT5 imports accept HTML (.htm, .html) and Excel (.xlsx, .xls) only.
Which time zone should I choose?
The zone of your broker's MT5 server, which is what the report's times are in. Blindspot then shows the times, and groups trades into days, in the time zone set in Blindspot Settings.
My account is not in US dollars. What happens?
Your amounts come in unchanged and Blindspot shows them with a dollar sign. Percentages and ratios such as win rate and profit factor are still right for that account. Don't add it to USD accounts under All Accounts.
Does this work with MetaTrader 4?
Blindspot only promises MetaTrader 5 reports. Your MetaTrader 4 file may be refused.
How much does it cost?
Blindspot is free while in beta. No credit card required.
Also works with
If you also trade futures, Blindspot imports from Tradovate, NinjaTrader, TopstepX, AMP, TradingView and DayTraders.com, and those trades do get contract specs and market data where Blindspot has it. Pick the source on the Import page. Trades can also be entered by hand, and you can connect ChatGPT or Claude to ask questions about your journal, or browse the demo journal first.
